Sex Ed crises, Vaginal Microbiome, jobs and happenings in sextech
๐ HEY ALL!
How's your week been?
I've been further exploring the role of AI in the intimacy space for a bigger project I'm working on.
Scarlett Johansson's public statement about Open AI's use of a voice eerily similar to her own is just the latest issue in a rapidly progressing space.
There's a nice conversation percolating on my post from early this week here ๐

๐จ UK Sex Ed Under Threat
IIn May 2024, reports emerged that the government plans to ban schools in England from teaching sex education to children under age 9.
There is panic over sex education content online and children bringing in topics they may have seen online [think: choking]. While the rise and access to sexual content online presents a lot of challenges, the UK government's proposed solutions don't seem to be providing much hope (or proactivity).
In October, Prime Minister Sunak announced they would work to allow parents to oversee their children's sex education at school, and be able to pull them out of those lessons if they saw fit.
Beth Ashley for Mashable breaks down why it's a bad idea to allow parents to oversee sex education and what has been done so far to improve sex education in schools (hint: not much). A great piece covering the UK, but really applicable for everywhere, just like the internet, this issue is global.
๐ธ Vaginal Synbiotic launch from Seed
I can't get enough of this beautiful campaign launch by Seed Health this week for the launch of VS-01.
ICYMI Seed Health launched VS-01โa vaginal synbiotic clinically validated to help establish an optimal vaginal microbiome dominated by Lactobacillus crispatus, the vaginaโs most protective bacteria.
Synbiotic... what's that, you say? A vaginal synbiotic is a product that combines probiotics and prebiotics specifically designed to support and maintain the health of the vaginal microbiome. And it's likely we will see more companies incorporate aspects of supporting the vaginal microbiome in the future, as Claire McCormack writes:
"So many brands, from period care to sexual wellness and beyond are paying important attention to this important aspect of womenโs health."
